01 Assessment

Initial consultation

A fifty-minute first session to talk through what's going on, relevant history and what you want out of therapy, ending with a plain-language plan.

From
$250 to $270
Takes
50 min

Your first appointment at Even Keel is fifty minutes with the psychologist you'll continue seeing, not a separate intake worker. Alison, Daniel or Tessa will ask about what's brought you in, a bit of relevant background, and what you're hoping will be different, and by the end of the session you'll have a plain-language plan: roughly how often you might come in, which approach fits, and whether it's worth getting a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from your GP before your next visit. There's no assessment battery to fill out beforehand.

What is included

  • A fifty-minute session with the psychologist you'll continue seeing
  • A plain-language plan by the end of the session
  • Medicare rebate processed on the spot with a valid referral
  • A follow-up appointment booked before you leave, if you want one

02How it runs

Step by step, in this order

Every session: 50 min. You always know which part you're on.

  1. 01 A short online intake form before you arrive: name, contact details and what you'd like to talk about
  2. 02 Arrive five minutes early to a quiet waiting area with two chairs, not an open room
  3. 03 Fifty minutes face to face or by video, with no notes taken in front of you
  4. 04 A plan and, if you want one, a next appointment agreed together at the end

03Asked often

Before you book

Not here? It might be on the FAQ page, and if not, ring and ask.

Do I need a referral to book?

No, you can book directly. A Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP is what makes you eligible for a Medicare rebate, so it's worth getting one first if you can, but it isn't required to book an initial consultation.

What should I bring?

Your Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral letter if you have one, and your Medicare card if you'd like to claim the rebate on the spot. Nothing else is needed.
