02How it works

Your thoughts get a seat at the table. They don't get to run it.

Even Keel Psychology is a small AHPRA-registered practice in Sandy Bay where a fifty-minute session is the whole appointment, not forty minutes once the intake chat and the paperwork are counted, and where a telehealth client anywhere in Tasmania sees the same clinician at the same fee as anyone who walks in off Regatta Point Lane.

  • The booked time is the used time
  • Plain language before a technique gets a name
  • You're the only client in the room
  • No outcome is ever guaranteed, and we won't pretend otherwise
The committee crowds a doorway while one client already sits calmly with his psychologist
One client already seated, calm, while the rest of the committee crowds the doorway.

03How a session moves

Overwhelmed, held, steadier

A line that dips, holds, then lifts: Overwhelmed, then Held, then Steadier

Overwhelmed. The session starts wherever the week actually left you, not where a form assumes you should be.

Steadier. A plain-language plan, a technique explained before it's used, and a proper fifty minutes to get there.

04The first session

What actually happens, step by step

Four stages, the same order every time, taken straight from an initial consultation.

  1. Close on one thought mid committee meeting, before breakfast is even finished

    01

    Before you arrive

A short online intake form before you arrive: name, contact details and what you'd like to talk about

  2. The committee crowds a doorway while one client already sits calmly with his psychologist

    02

    When you arrive

Arrive five minutes early to a quiet waiting area with two chairs, not an open room

  3. Alison Marsh and a client seated face to face, three stones set on the table between them

    03

    The fifty minutes

Fifty minutes face to face or by video, with no notes taken in front of you

  4. The same client, settled, in afternoon window light

    04

    Before you leave

A plan and, if you want one, a next appointment agreed together at the end

06The practice

The ten minutes between clients was where most of the actual thinking about a client's week was supposed to happen, and mostly didn't. So the fifty minutes booked became the fifty minutes used.

From the practice's own story, 2016 to now

A proper fifty minutes, a plan you actually understand, and a psychologist who read your file before you sat down.

  • A fifty-minute session timed from when you sit down, not from your appointment slot
  • Medicare rebate claims processed on the spot for eligible clients so you only pay the gap
  • Telehealth sessions at the same fee and with the same clinician as an in-person appointment
  • A provisional psychologist under supervision on staff, for a lower fee while you wait for a vacancy with a fully registered clinician

07What clients say

Six of fourteen, from across greater Hobart

The rest, with a filter by service, are on the reviews page.

  • Marcus T., Sandy Bay May 2025

Booked an initial consultation after putting it off for about a year. Alison didn't make me fill out a form about my whole life history before we'd even said hello, we just talked. Left with an actual plan, which I wasn't expecting.

    Initial consultation

  • Renee K., Battery Point Nov 2025

Been seeing Daniel fortnightly since winter. The Tuesday evening slot means I don't have to take time off work, and the rebate gets processed while I'm still standing at reception, so there's no chasing Medicare later.

    Individual therapy session

  • Josh P., South Hobart Jan 2026

My brain runs a full committee meeting most mornings before I've had breakfast. Working with Alison on the overthinking hasn't switched it off, but I can tell the difference between a thought worth acting on and one that just wants attention.

    Anxiety and overthinking

  • Fiona D., West Hobart Aug 2025

Went in fried after a bad year at work. Tessa was upfront that she's provisional and still under supervision, which honestly made me trust her more, not less. The ACT stuff about what's actually mine to control has stuck.

    Stress and burnout support

  • Callum W., North Hobart Jun 2025

Moved back to Hobart after a divorce and needed help figuring out what my week even looked like now. Daniel was practical about it rather than precious, which is what I needed.

    Life adjustment and change

  • Priya S., Hobart CBD Mar 2026

Telehealth from my lunch break at work has meant I've actually kept every appointment this year, which never happened when I had to drive anywhere. Same fee, same psychologist, no faffing about with a different login each fund.
